HORIZONTAL VS BACKBONE CABLING SERVICES AND SOLUTIONS

For several years, our primary competence has been cabling and wiring for data and voice communications. T-Tech Installations, a cabling solutions company, would propose the optimal cabling solution, whether copper or fiber optic cabling, CAT 6 or CAT 6A. Our qualified designers and technicians provide high-quality cabling solutions, construction and implementation services for the benefit of your company.

Computer networks, particularly in commercial or academic environments, need complex and specialized cabling. Certain materials must be utilized in the construction of network cables. Backbone cabling and horizontal wiring are the two major cable types utilized in today's structured cabling system, and neither is optional. Because backbone cabling and horizontal wiring differ so significantly, the cables utilized in these two structured cabling systems differ as well. To give you a deeper look at horizontal and backbone cabling, let’s look at the six most important elements of your structured cabling system.

  • Entrance facility: the connection between your on-premise cabling and the network endpoint of your telephone network operator.
  • Equipment room: a critical subsystem that houses the equipment and cabling that serves users in the facility or on campus.
  • Backbone cabling: inter-and intra-building connections, such as those linking the aforementioned entry facilities, equipment rooms, and telecommunications rooms.
  • Horizontal cabling is a subsystem that connects telecommunications rooms to individual outlets or workspaces.
  • Telecom room, also known as network room, are the subsystems that link the backbone cable to the horizontal cabling.

  • What does Backbone Cabling consist of?

Backbone cabling is sometimes referred to as vertical cabling or wiring. It connects the telecommunications rooms, equipment room, and entrance facilities. A backbone cable is generally installed from floor to floor. Backbone cabling can be installed using various media, including unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable, shielded twisted-pair (STP) cable, fiber optic cable, or coaxial cable.

We provide various backbone cabling solutions, but fiber optic cable is the best option since it provides far more bandwidth than typical Cat5, Cat6, or even Cat7 twisted pair copper connections. Another advantage of fiber is that it can travel considerably further than copper cable, making it particularly appealing for backbone infrastructure.

The backbone cabling's role is to link telecommunications closet, equipment room, and Demarc room in the telecom cabling control system. Backbone cabling comprises backbone cables, intermediate and primary cross-connects, mechanical terminations, and patch cords or jumpers that allow cross-connection. Backbone cabling also involves inter-building cabling. T-Tech Installations has extensive experience installing Backbone wiring both inside and outside of Data Centers.

  • What does Horizontal Cabling consist of?

The horizontal cabling system connects the telecom information outlet in the work area to the telecommunications room (TR) or telecommunications enclosure (TE). Horizontal wiring is typically placed in a star topology that links each workspace to the telecommunications room. The telecommunications outlet, an optional consolidation point, horizontal cable, mechanical terminations, and patch cords (or jumpers) placed in the TR or TE are all part of it.

We provide Network Cabling as well as fiber optic cable for horizontal cabling.  (UTP) cable (Cat5e cable, Cat 6 cable, Cat6a cable, Cat7) is typically suggested for voice transmission.

  • What is the role of an Entrance Facility?

The Entrance Facility Structured Cabling subsystem comprises all components needed to link a structure to an outside data/telecommunications operator or a secure network cabling system. Entrance Facility cabling can also serve as a backbone cabling link between buildings. It is the Demarcation point at which the service provider interfaces with the consumer or building being served.

  • Why do I need a Telecommunications Closet?

When placed from a cabinet to a user outlet, data cabling has a maximum distance of 90m. This provides for 5m patch leads at each end, for a total link length of 100m. Sub cabinets are used in buildings when user outlets are greater than 90m away from the cabinet. They are advised to be put in a separate room that will hold the extra cabinet and hardware required to connect the customers it serves. In specific designs, regardless of distance, one telecommunications room per level is suggested to serve that floor; however, space does not always allow for this. Telecommunication enclosures are also utilized to server workspaces in remote working locations or when space is limited.

  • Why do I need an Equipment Room?

This is usually the primary technology room for each tenant. This room will hold the primary telecommunication MER equipment and deliver data cabling to users and backbone cabling to other cabinets located around the facility. The primary communications room will be the lone room in many business locations, and all data cabling will begin and end here.
